North eastern burbs of Pittsburgh here...BWV, WLV & AKV
2020 Scoreboard...will be happy to bat .500 if truth be told
Completed: 2 - January & February
Cancelled: 2 - March/April & August
Hopefully: 2 - Sept/Oct & Nov/Dec
Our scoreboard is worse. Could say we're 'batting a thousand' as my mom used to sarcastically say when everything went wrong. We will get in zero DVC trips this year.
We also typically would go 2-4 times a year. We liked going to HHI as well. But would get APs and do WDW about 3 times a year. Usually 3-5 days. Sometimes a week or longer. But mostly shorty trips. And one trip was always F&W since 2013. Then started adding in F&G. LAst year we did March, May, Oct and Dec at WDW and 4 short HHI trips mixed in as well. We were living in NC last year so it was a bit easier to hop in the car and drive (HHI was like 5 hours and WDW was like 9.5).
This year we booked HHI for Mother's day and then changed it to F&G at WDW to see Survivor on June 1. Then, when that looked like a no-go, we moved to Fathers' Day at WDW. When that looked like it might open but not the parks and that we'd need to wear masks in the June heat and not have all the stuff we wanted (had Victoria and Albert's booked and that wasn't opening)....we moved back to HHI in early June. Thought for sure HHI and VB would open sooner than they did. Especially HHI when all of the island was up and running already. Well, they set to open the day after we were checking out. So we cancelled and added onto our 4 night January 2021 stay, making it 8 nights. And we booked a 2BR condo rental in HHI right near the Disney resort and stayed a week.
So all trips via DVC cancelled for 2020. Last did DVC for 2 nights in December. Prior to that was the F&W trip end of Sept into Oct for a week. We also had 3 cruises booked. One for July that was cancelled and we cancelled, before final payment, a cruise for March 2021. But we have an Oct cruise that we got a TA deal and had to pay in full and cannot cancel that we're hoping gets cancelled by Carnival. Waiting. Don't want to go. Thinking of waiting to cruise again for maybe late 2021 or early 2022.
We, DH and I, just drove to Ithaca for the weekend. To just get out of the house. We did the week at HHI in early June with our twin DDs-21. But we are a go see and do family. Aside from the multiple DVC trips each year, and the cruises, we also traveled with our DDs who played travel ball from age 12-18. So just hanging at home hasn't been something we do a lot (until March 2020 hit). When they went to college, we did have lots of empty time on our hands and hence all those trips last year. Plus we'd go out to eat/drink every weekend and can't really do much of that anymore either.
So we are from MD, but when DDs graduated HS we moved to NC for 3 years. DDs went off to college in PA. We were a 9 hour drive from them for 3 years. I hated that. Plus our 70-something parents are all in MD and were having health issues. So DH transferred jobs to Camp Hill, PA. Now we're about an hour and 50 mins from DDs apartment (north of us) and from our parents (south of us) as well. But DDs have been home with us all summer (which is an adjustment for sure). And we hesitate to visit with our parents due to COVID. Saw them Valentine's weekend and then finally for July 4th. And I was terrified after July 4th, that they'd get sick (even though we haven't been sick, but still worry). They are just fine, thank goodness.
Strange times. Just hope things change or, at least, we all have serenity to accept the things we cannot change. Because, man, the change with this is hard.
Adding in- we are 47 and married 24 (almost) years. Aside from twin DDs-21 we have a DS-23. We did live here in this area back when the kids were teeny tiny, from Oct 99 to May 02. Lived on the East shore of Harrisburg then and we're on the West shore now.
