To create your own magic pin, you'll need a image manipulator that supports the .PSD format. (I recommend Photoshop but you can also use Gimp or Paint Shop Pro)
Follow these steps to create your own magic pin (fairly simple):
1. Plan ahead and visualize the finish product of your magic pin.
1. Open up which ever magic template you chose.
2. Resize the template to 149 (width) x 196 (height) (may be off by a pixel)
3. Take a screenshot of your VMK character (try getting a screenshot of your character in a expedition everest/blizzard beach/winter wonderland room for easier cropping).
4. Create a new image and paste your screenshot.
4. Crop out your VMK character using the Magic Wand tool (Also known as.. Smart Selection/Select contiguous regions in Gimp)
5. Paste your cropped out character into your magic pin file and place it where ever you desire (slightly under the words "Magic Spells" in VMK magic pins).
Tip: Apply some black outer glow to smooth out the edges and crop out any pixels from the background if noticeable for better results.
6. Find/Create a background for your magic pin.
7. Add the bottom text of your magic pin which is usually the magic word to activate the pin. (VMK sometimes uses a font similar to Arial in italics/+ bold. Update - May 10th, 2009: Actually, it's Folio Bold Condensed in caps.)
8. Resize your magic pin to 49 x 64 (if new template) or 64 x 84 (if old template)
Enjoy your new magic pin!
